What Happens During a Root Canal?
After numbing your mouth with local anesthesia, Dr. Julian will isolate the tooth to prevent saliva from reaching the area. He will then make a small opening in the top of the tooth (the crown) so that the inner chambers and canals are exposed. Using specialized instruments, he will begin to clear out decayed portions of the tooth as well as remove the pulp – the cause of the pain.
Once he is finished, he will sterilize the tooth and fill it with a biocompatible substance known as gutta-percha. After sealing off the tooth, an impression will be taken that will allow a customized dental crown to be created and placed within a few weeks of your procedure.
