What Happens During a Root Canal?
To provide a painless root canal treatment, Dr. Julian begins by numbing your mouth with local anesthesia. He then isolates the tooth to prevent saliva from contaminating the area. He will then make a small opening in the top of the tooth (the crown) so that the inner chambers and canals are exposed. Using specialized instruments, he will begin to clear out decayed portions of the tooth as well as remove the pulp – the cause of the pain.
Once he is finished, he will sterilize the tooth and fill it with a biocompatible substance known as gutta-percha. As part of the root canal restoration process, the tooth is sealed, and an impression is taken for a custom dental crown, which will be placed a few weeks after your procedure to fully restore the tooth’s strength and function.
